Welcoming New Staff
A community of Christian students
Uni life is more than just getting a degree. Today’s students are exploring perspectives that will shape their worldview forever. The student world presents an incredible opportunity to reach whole generations with the good news of the gospel, and Christian Unions are best placed to share the good news of Jesus with their friends.
Over the past year alone, we have seen thousands of students across Great Britain hearing about the good news of Christ through CUs, and many have put their trust in Him.
Meet the new staff
As we look ahead to a new academic year, we are thrilled to introduce this year's new Staff Workers. Beginning in August, they will each give invaluable training and support to CUs as they seek to share the gospel with their friends. We have already begun praying for them, and are prayerfully expectant of all the Lord will do in and through them.
Charlie Coombs - Leeds and Bradford
‘I passionately believe that Christian students are best placed to reach their university with the gospel, and I can’t wait to encourage and equip them in Leeds and Bradford. My prayer is that university would be a season where life-long convictions are formed in these students, as well as a time where many who don’t yet know Jesus encounter Him.’
Joey Kirkham - York
‘I’m really excited about the opportunity to work alongside the CUs in York; mentoring, doing Bible studies and helping guide the students as they seek to give every student a chance to hear and respond to the gospel.’
Matthew Leung - Keele and Staffordshire
‘Thousands of students who have never heard of Jesus will be coming to Keele and Staffordshire to study, and there are none better placed than the CUs to share the gospel with them! It is my hope that over the next few years, this work will lead many students to become disciples of Jesus, who will then go on to make even more disciples.’
Phil Lowman – Plymouth
‘I’m really excited about starting as the Staff Worker in Plymouth this August, serving and investing in students. Thousands who have never heard of Jesus will come to Plymouth to study, and the CUs are uniquely placed to make Him known! God willing, I’ll be encouraging, equipping and supporting CU members to reach other students with the gospel.’
Susannah Redmayne – Cambridge
‘As I begin as a Staff Worker, I’m excited at the prospect of encouraging, equipping and supporting the CUs in Cambridge to reach out to other students with the gospel.’
Connor Perring – Central and South London
‘Looking back, I’m so thankful to God that I didn’t waste the time I had at university, but used that ‘last best opportunity’ to its fullest. But this certainly wasn’t down to me. I am utterly convinced it was due to God using a great CU and excellent CU Staff Worker doing everything they could to help me. I now want to do the same! Students are the best placed to reach their friends, and I want to equip them as well as I can so they too can look back at their time in university knowing they used it for God’s glory.’
Naomi Sherwood – South West London
‘I am so thankful for the Christian Union and the huge impact it had during my student experience. It gave the encouragement of other Christians living and speaking for Jesus, and brought the confidence that God was working through us. It is a great joy to still be sharing Jesus with my university friends, even after graduating. I am delighted to come alongside the Christian Unions as they provide faithful persuasive answers and creatively display Christ on their campus.’
Lucy Thompson - Glasgow
‘While at university, the Christian Union massively helped to equip and encourage me in sharing the gospel. Wonderfully, I had the joy of walking alongside friends, sharing Jesus with them and seeing some became Christians! Over the next few years I’m so excited that I get to help support, encourage and equip Christian Union members to do exactly this.’
Michael Williams - Theology Network
‘As a Christian studying theology, God gracefully used the experience to strengthen my faith and deepen my love for Him. This was in no small part through Theology Network, which equipped me to approach theology in a Christ-centred manner. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to now make a similar investment in the lives of Christian theology students across the country.’
‘Having a Staff Worker is such a huge blessing; they give up so much time for us and are a great source of encouragement as we share the gospel on campus.’ – CU student
