A tribute to Michael Green

On Wednesday 6 February Canon Michael Green (1930–2019) died peacefully following ill health. Family from around the world were able to visit him in the days before his passing.

Michael was a passionate supporter of Christian Unions, serving as President of Oxford Inter-Collegiate Christian Union in 1952, and speaking at university mission weeks across six decades. In a distinguished church career, Michael served among other roles as Principal of St John’s College Nottingham, and Rector of St Aldates’ Church, Oxford.

UCCF Director Richard Cunningham said: 'Michael displayed more than a huge heart for the gospel, he also modelled incredible humility considering his impact on the UK church. Many of those serving in ministry today are the direct beneficiaries of his encouragement and investment in the next generation of gospel missioners. He will be greatly missed – not just as a fine theologian and persuasive evangelist, but as a friend and mentor to so many students, staff and Relay workers across the nation and beyond.'

Michael is survived by his wife Rosemary, and by their children Sarah, Jenny, Tim and Jonathan. We pray for them and the whole family in their loss.
