Is it true? A meaningful life in a random universe?

Giving every student an opportunity...

Here at UCCF, our vision is to give every student in Great Britain an opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We’ve rummaged through the hundreds of stories we’ve received in the last few months and picked out five of our favourite examples of Christian Unions doing exactly that, with life-changing results…

Lancashire

In January, it looked like a mission week at the UCLan (University of Central Lancashire at Preston) CU would be cancelled. However, after some careful envisioning from their Staff Workers and Relay Workers, this small CU took on the challenge to hold a week of events proclaiming the good news of Jesus on campus. What they did was remarkable. With three great evenings of music and food, students heard talks from John’s Gospel that invited them to follow Jesus.

One such student, Sarah*, attended the first event to support her friend, and found the message and invitation compelling. During the week she came to faith and is now going to a local church. We give thanks to God that He can work powerfully through any situation.

South Wales

Jess* recently became friends with Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama CU member Luned, who subsequently invited her to do Uncover. For the next five months they met regularly to look at God’s Word together. During this time Jess started going to CU events and to church.

When Luned asked Jess the other day where she stands before God, Jess responded, ‘Since Christmas there has been a change in my heart, I don’t want to do stuff for myself anymore but for God.’ She went on to tell Luned that she had given her life to Christ!

Kent

What a joy to see new life received at the Canterbury Christ Church events week ‘Searching’ during February. The week drew in a number of students who were indeed searching, including Amir*, a student from a Muslim background. He attended a film discussion on Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings trilogy just because he had received a flyer, and at the end of the following evening he came to faith!

He wrote on the response card: ‘Forgive me for my sins, I repent and trust in Jesus Christ. Praise God for the revelation this man received to be saved!’ Give thanks for this new life and please pray for Amir as he settles into a local church.

Northern Scotland

This has been an exciting term for Aberdeen CU as they planned for and hosted their events week. The night before the week kicked off, the CU organised a commissioning service where students were encouraged to pray for their friends by name. Throughout the week several friends of CU members came to faith – what an encouragement to see God answer prayers.

We are so thankful that God is also at work at Robert Gordon University (RGU). Off the back of their events week entitled ‘What Kind of God?’ the CU has been running a follow-up Uncover course. Although only a handful of students signed up, one student, Miles*, gave his life to Christ in March. Please pray for him as he begins this new life.

Exeter

This term has seen a flurry of activity for Exeter CU as students have committed themselves to regular evangelism and outreach. A particularly encouraging time was the CU events week in February, entitled ‘Is This It?’

The highlight of the week was the first evening’s event ‘From Mafia to Christ’, an acoustic night and talk. Slavko, a converted Eastern European Mafia member, gave his testimony in front of nearly 400 students and more than ten gave their lives to Christ that night! Over the week a good number came to Christ and received new life. Join with Exeter CU in giving thanks to God for the privilege of seeing this.
