Students meeting Jesus in Mark
We launched Uncover Mark at Forum, our annual student leaders’ conference back in September, to over 1,000 CU leaders from across Great Britain.
Together, we celebrated who Jesus is – watching excerpts from The Mark Drama and ‘Anybody Home?’ We sang ‘You are the Christ’, Olly Knight’s new worship song written for the occasion. Having called Uncover ‘the best evangelistic strategy I have seen in all my years of ministry’, Graham Daniels (Christians in Sport) spoke passionately at the launch from Mark 4 on the power of God’s Word and implored the students simply to ‘go for it’ and ‘join in God’s great plan’ by inviting their friends to read Uncover. And invite they have! Here are a few stories about how students are meeting Jesus through Uncover Mark since then.
- One new student at York St John University came to a freshers’ week event hosted by the CU, inviting them to explore Jesus during their time at university. They said, ‘The real reason I came here was to find myself – I felt a bit lost at home and I’m open to discovering what life’s all about.’ Several interested students at the event have signed up to read the Bible, going through Uncover Mark with CU students.
- At the University of Roehampton, the three members of the CU gave out tea and coffee on the main campus lawn and asked people ‘What makes you, you?’ They invited students to explore further and as a result, each of them is reading Mark’s Gospel with someone, growing in confidence and enjoying opening up God’s Word together!
- ‘I don’t believe in God, but I find your faith interesting’. CU member Mary (name changed) has started reading Uncover Mark with her coursemate, Daniella (name changed). They’ve already looked at three different passages together, and Daniella’s keen to come along to church and CU to explore more.
- During freshers’ week at St Andrews University, Sam* shared his testimony at an acoustic night run by the CU. It really struck a chord with Hamish*, one of the guests at the event. After a long chat that night, Sam offered to meet up with Hamish to talk further and read the Bible. They’ve been reading through Mark’s Gospel, using Uncover, and after just one meet up Hamish has started coming along to a home group at Sam's church, where he's been able to meet more Christians and learn what it means to follow Jesus.
Uncover Mark printed gospels will be available to churches from April 2019. Find out more about the full suite of resources – including ready-to-use editions of John and Luke, and various translations – here.
