Sam is doing Relay in Lancaster, supporting the Christian Union in Lancaster University.
Relay is a ten-month discipleship, training and mission programme run by UCCF, a charity which aims to give every student in Great Britain an opportunity to hear and respond to the good news about Jesus Christ.
Relay Workers equip, resource and encourage student Christian Unions whilst being discipled and trained by a member of UCCF staff.

Hi, I’m Sam, and this year I’ll be serving with UCCF as a Relay Worker in Lancaster.
I’ve had the blessing of growing up in a Christian home, and I’m so grateful for the ways God has shaped me through the people and opportunities He placed around me to help me understand the life-changing message of the gospel.
One of the biggest parts of that has been serving with Lancaster CU during university. I’ve loved being involved in student mission; it’s been one of the most formative parts of my time at university, and through it I’ve become increasingly passionate about sharing the hope of the gospel with students.
That’s why I’m so excited to be doing Relay this year, a programme centred on discipleship, training, and mission, where I’ll have the opportunity to serve alongside the CU while receiving training in theology, ministry, and evangelism. This involves meeting regularly with Staff Workers, attending training conferences, and studying the Bible more deeply so that I can grow in confidence in sharing and living out the gospel. Alongside the training, in the day-to-day life of the CU, I will be supporting student leaders, spending time with students, and reading the Bible with people who want to explore who Jesus is.
Because Relay is a voluntary year, I’ll need to raise around £10,000 to cover my living and ministry costs. - That the CU would be fruitful in its mission and that people would come to know God through it.
- That CU students would be encouraged in their faith and would grow and flourish as Christians throughout their time at university.
- That, through Relay, I would grow in knowledge of and reliance on the Lord, and that He would use me to advance His mission.
