Ruth Wordley

Ruth grew up in North London and moved to Cardiff in 2017 to start a History Degree at Cardiff Uni. She has stuck around ever since and now lives in the city with her husband Tom. After being strongly encouraged by her Youth Leader to get plugged in to the Christian Union she went along to the CU events in her first weeks at Uni. From there she got stuck in with the CU and realised that it wasn't just a group of Christians hanging out but a group of Christian students encouraging each other to share their faith at University.

Towards the end of her first year Ruth became a Hall Group Bible Study Leader, reading the Bible with first year students and helping them host evangelistic events. This was really formative for showing her not just the importance of sharing her faith with non-Christian flatmates and coursemates, but also the unique opportunities there were for sharing the gospel at Uni. Ruth then became the Coordinator of these Hall Groups and was a part of the CU Committee. This gave Ruth opportunities to see how God was at work in Cardiff University, how he was using the CU to spread a passion for Jesus on the campus. While at Uni Ruth's passion for evangelism grew and the CU equipped her to have conversations with her coursemates about the gospel in a way she had never experienced before.

Her time seeing God work in the Christian Union formed in Ruth a passion to see students continue sharing their faith at uni and she spent a year as a Relay Worker with UCCF at Cardiff University and Treforest. Her time as a Relay Worker deepend her understanding of the gospel and the beauty of what Christ has done for her. She was able to see how God delights to use his people to grow his family and what a joy it is to share the hope of the gospel.

After Relay she spent a year as a Ministry Apprentice, working with students at her Church in Cardiff, before returning to work with the CUs as a Staff Worker in Cardiff and Treforest.

When she's not working with students (and sometimes when she is!) Ruth enjoys playing guitar, running, going to the beach and doing a variety of crafts in front of the TV.

Ruth says...

On my second day at Cardiff University I was feeling homesick and overwhelmed and contacted the Christian Union. Within hours I was welcomed into the home of some students in the CU. From then on my involvement with CU grew and grew, and I realised that instead of being a Christian social club, it was a mission team with a unique goal - to tell students the gospel.

My time as a student and as a Relay Worker with UCCF were transformative for my faith and evangelism. The training I received in the CU and through Relay deepened my understanding of the gospel and the beauty of what Christ has done for me. I was able to see how God delights to use his people to grow his family and the joy it is to share the hope we have. The CU equipped me to have conversations with my coursemates about the gospel in a way I had never experienced before.

I am so excited to start working with UCCF this August as a Staff Worker in Cardiff. I can’t wait to keep sharing gospel with students and equipping Christian students for lives following and proclaiming Christ. I’d love it if you would consider partnering with me in this amazing mission, supporting me in prayer and giving as I support the CUs in proclaiming the gospel of Christ.
