Oli is doing Relay in York, supporting the Christian Unions in York St John University and the University of York.
Relay is a ten-month discipleship, training and mission programme run by UCCF, a charity which aims to give every student in Great Britain an opportunity to hear and respond to the good news about Jesus Christ.
Relay Workers equip, resource and encourage student Christian Unions whilst being discipled and trained by a member of UCCF staff.
Oli says...
Hello! I’m Oli. I recently finished a Chemistry degree at the University of York. At university, CU played a key role in me becoming a Christian. I’d always believed in God, but I didn’t really get the whole Jesus thing. I attended church on and off, preferring to do my own thing. Near the end of my second year, I struggled with a mental breakdown and went to an evangelistic CU event. I remember pouring my heart out to the speaker after the event, and feeling a longing to know Jesus. It was there that I met a student from the CU that invited to me to his church. Some months later, I was a Christian, and I still adore that church.
The point is: Christian Unions point students to Jesus. They’re not a church, but they point people to church and its Head. This is the work I’m excited to play a part of during Relay. Throughout the year, I’ll lead Bible studies for students, encourage CU members and help the CU evangelise. Simply, I will point students to Jesus. I will also study God’s Word every week, attend UCCF conferences and learn from my supervisor. I’m excited to see what God does at the York universities this year, as well as grow in love with Jesus and share Him with students.
Relay is a voluntary role, fuelled by the generosity of supporters. Please could you help? Any support – prayer or financial – would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Pray for Oli
Prayer is a vital part of supporting Oli’s work with Christian Unions. Here are some prayer points from Oli:
- That God would pour His Holy Spirit into the students at the University of York and York St John University, that the Spirit would lead them to Jesus.
- That I would fall deeply in love with Jesus, and live for His sake from that love.
- That I would point students – Christian and non-Christian – to the Lord Jesus, that they would fall deeply in love with Him and live for His sake from that love.
